How entropy-theorems can show that off-line approximating high-dim Pareto-fronts is too hard

چکیده
It is empirically established that multiobjective evolutionary algorithms do not scale well with the number of conflicting objectives. We here show that the convergence rate of any comparison-based multi-objective algorithm, for the Hausdorff distance, is not much better than the convergence rate of the random search, unless the number of objectives is very moderate, in a framework in which the stronger assumption is that the objectives have conflicts. Our conclusions are (i) the relevance of the number of conflicting objectives (ii) the relevance of random-search-based criterions (iii) the very-hardness of more than 3objectives optimization (iv) some hints about new cross-over operators.

Assessing solution quality of biobjective 0-1 knapsack problem using evolutionary and heuristic algorithms
Multiobjective 0-1 knapsack problem involving multiple knapsacks is a widely studied problem. In this paper, we consider a formulation of the biobjective 0-1 knapsack problem which involves a single knapsack; this formulation ismore realistic and hasmany industrial applications. Though it is formulated using simple linear functions, it is an NP-hard problem. We consider three different types of...

متن کاملMulti-Criterion Optimization in Minimum Spanning Trees
The Extreme Point Deterministic Algorithm (EPDA), proposed for the multicriterion minimum spanning tree problem, is applicable to more than two criteria and can determine large Pareto fronts comprising of both supported and non-supported efficient solutions, unlike many existing algorithms. EPDA is validated against an exhaustive search for small problems (four to ten nodes, two and three crite...
متن کاملAn effective method based on the angular constraint to detect Pareto points in bi-criteria optimization problems
The most important issue in multi-objective optimization problems is to determine the Pareto points along the Pareto frontier. If the optimization problem involves multiple conflicting objectives, the results obtained from the Pareto-optimality will have the trade-off solutions that shaping the Pareto frontier. Each of these solutions lies at the boundary of the Pareto frontier, such that the i...
متن کاملFinding the pareto curve in bimatrix games is easy
Pareto efficiency is a widely used property in solution concepts for cooperative and non–cooperative game–theoretic settings and, more generally, in multi–objective problems. However, finding or even approximating (when the objective functions are not convex) the Pareto curve is hard. Most of the literature focuses on computing concise representations to approximate the Pareto curve or on explo...
